AV

Martindale-Hubbell

AV Preeminent® – the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a nationally respected evaluator of legal ability and ethics.

Top 5%

Leading Lawyers

Rick Murphy has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer — a designation awarded to the top 5% of attorneys in Illinois based on peer recommendations and professional achievement.

$50MM

Record-Breaking Verdict

Our firm secured a $50 million jury verdict — the largest ever awarded against a municipality in Illinois. The Gant v. City of Chicago case, involving a mishandled 911 call, received national attention and was named one of the year’s most important trials by The National Law Journal. This remains the largest verdict in our firm’s history.

40

Under Forty

The 40 Under Forty honor is awarded to the most accomplished young attorneys in Illinois, based on peer nominations and professional excellence. Rick Murphy is among this elite group — one of three attorneys at our firm to receive this prestigious recognition.

Second

Highest

Rich Egan holds the second-highest jury verdict ever awarded in Cook County for an un-operated herniated disc — a major result in spinal injury litigation. He has also been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star every year since 2011.

Multiple

Record Verdicts

Tom Plouff holds the Cook County record for the largest verdicts in several categories: a slip-and-fall case, a knee injury case, and an un-operated compression fracture case. He also secured the largest verdict in Illinois for an apparent agency claim — where a hospital was held liable for a doctor presented as its agent.

Top Verdict

Chicago Sun-Times

A Chicago Sun-Times investigation used Cook County Jury Verdict Reporter data to identify the firms behind that year’s largest verdicts. Of the eight jury awards exceeding $5 million, our firm secured two — more than any other firm on the list.

Historic

Ruling

In a case led by Jim Costello and our firm, a Cook County judge ruled that the next of kin of an embryo conceived via IVF could sue under Illinois’s Wrongful Death Act — a groundbreaking legal precedent. The decision made the cover of the Chicago Sun-Times and was featured on all four national networks, major wire services, and media outlets around the world.
